B.O.A.S Rating – 5/5
The second full star rating I’ve given a book in 2020!
This book was easy to get through, especially since I predominantly went through it as an audiobook courtesy of Scribd 30-day-free program to make staying home that much better.
The second reason why is because I had a book-buddy – one James Kimani! To our surprise and delight, we both liked the book. Now, as far as choosing an audiobook, we got lucky. Because this is one you’d want to hear with the Nigerian accents in full blow. : Jesu, ṣãnu fun’ just sounds a lot better from a Yoruba speaker, hahaha.
Back to the story! The book uses dark humour to tell us the story of Korede and her sister who has the most unfortunate habit of killing her boyfriends. And what a beautiful, remorseless killer is our Ayoola.
We meet her on her third incident (the number of murders one must commit to be classified as a serial killer), and the story is told in a series of flashbacks and forward action.
This book was thrilling, amusing and discerning. And at the end, you’re left to reflect on how beauty and charm can blind, and questioning the extent of familial love. Amazing!
I’m still searching for another read that’ll entertain us as much.
