B.O.A.S Rating – 3/5
“Oh, how I regret not having worn a bikini for the entire year I was twenty-six. If anyone young is reading this, go, right this minute, put on a bikini, and don’t take it off until you’re thirty-four.” This book was a riot!
The book is a collection of essays. Some are incredibly relatable, like the titular one that makes the self-deprecating observation on how gravity and time will inevitably wreak havoc on women’s necks; Our faces are lies, our necks are the truth. 😅
On Maintenance is a witty observation that “Maintenance is what you have to do just so you can walk out the door knowing that if you go to the market and bump into a guy who once rejected you, you won’t have to hide behind a stack of canned food.” As a woman, I can say that we all fully understand what this means…and its associated costs, hahaha.
Ephron’s book is full of observations which trigger instant recognition yet don’t sound like something you’ve read before. And I’ve been inspired to write my own collection of ‘ What I Wish I’d Known’.
